For week 4, I'm supposed to identify the purpose of any FOUR resources. After which explain my answers by listing the reasons where the easons provided can be related to the different characteristics of each type of resource.

Resources could be categorized into different purposes.
Mainly:

• Information
• Advocacy
• Business/Marketing
• News
• Personal
• Entertainment

Resource 1:

Purpose of resource: Business/Marketing

Reasons:

I would say that http://createdigitalmusic.com/ is more of a business/marketing purpose because it belongs to a company’s website and is more likely to be introducing its own latest product software product for the 5-11 music set called Groovy Music. Although its product is of an entertainment purpose, the site seems to be focusing more on advertising its own product.

Purpose of resource: News

Reasons:

The site http://www.news.com/ from the URL stated above is more of a news website because it features all the latest news updates in the music downloads available. Similar to a newspaper, it quotes phrases from articles and provides figures such as the estimated percentage of teens spending time downloading and listening to music etc.

Resource 3:

Purpose of resource: Advocacy

Reasons :

Drugfree.org which can be found from the URL above is a site that is considered more of an advocacy purpose as it is arguing on behalf on a particular issue based on the posted issue. The site is created more to increase participation and to influence public opinions based on certain issues.

Purpose of resource : Information

Reasons :

The purpose of this website is more on information since it is a write out of a person’s report on a particular topic. It is considered an information purpose site because it is based on research that are existing and it is more informational in terms of content instead of views and comments.

For this week, I'm supposed to identify one topic from my core subjects for research. Based on the topic chosen, I'm supposed to search the internet for 4 different types of websites.

The 4 different combination of websites and its URL are indicated below:


1. Personal Website

Resource Description:

It is very common to see teenagers playing musical instruments nowadays. However that might not be so as compared to the past. We don’t see teenagers attending music lessons, neither do we see them playing musical instruments ten years back. Hence, there is an urge to bring back the music industry.


2. Organizational Website

Resource Description:

Berklee College of Music, facilitating students with the knowledge of music outside the classical and jazz genres. Specializes in training rock, jazz and other contemporary music not available at other music schools.


3. Subject-based Website

Resource Description:

MP3.com provides free music downloads as well as the latest MTV videos that could be streamed and view by existing members. It features albums, songs, photos, videos and up to date news from various artists.


4. Organizational Website

Resource Description:

CNET provides free music program downloads to keep teens entertained. It features the latest music software that has been released as well the instructions for its usability. Some well known programs that are available are ITunes, Breakdance Machine as well as IDaily Diary.

Major Differences among the three different types of websites:

Personal Websites are maintained by individuals and it includes topics of his/her own interests, Organizational Websites on the other hand are sites that are created by a group of people from the same company or organization mainly for the companies own usage or required for running the business. Subject-based websites are sites that have a particular subject focus whereby focused subjects may be the form of education, business, government or technology.

Practical 1

For practical 1 I am supposed to pick a topic that relates to my interest and after which identify one aspect of the topic that I'm interested in.

I have chosen PC Games as my topic and and the world's best selling PC game as my aspect. After doing my online research, I have finally come a conclusion that 'The Sims' is the best selling PC game in the year 2007.

A short video clip that shows how the game is played. Players of the The Sims 2 are able to create pets for their Sims to love, train, play with and take to the park.
